Product Description
Over the course of 2026, jazz piano trio Okonski (Steve Okonski on keys, Durand Jones and the Indications bandmate Aaron Frazer on drums, and bassist Michael Isvara ""Ish"" Montgomery) have been trickling out a wide variety of singles to keep fans at bay ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 LP3. The tracks offer a variety of influences, and include collaborations with the likes of Saxophonist Cochemea and harpist Rachel Kitchlew. To conclude this series of singles, Colemine records has pressed up a limited number of cassettes including all the newest tracks and a few bonus live tunes. The group's regarded EP 'Trio Session Demos' have been added to the flip of the cassette, the first time these hip-hop inspired early cuts have been available physically. At the top of 2025, Okonski released their sophomore LP 'Entrance Music' to wide acclaim. The spiritual jazz record received praise from Rolling Stone, BBC, Billboard, KEXP, countless others and has streamed over 10 million times. The trio recently completed a sold out LA show and embark on their first UK/EU tour this fall. There is much more to come from Okonski in the coming years. 'Axes' Blurb:Continuing in the spirit of collaboration, Okonski's newest single ""Axes"" features Rachel Kitchlew joining the trio on harp. The simplicity of it's opening melody gradually builds into an energetic peak, with Montgomery and Frazer's driving foundation allowing the piano and harp to swell into a hypnotic rhythmic climax. Kitchlew's addition expands Okonski's sound into a more cinematic milieu, beautifully complementing their previous work.'Flying' Blurb: 'Flying,' the second in a string of forthcoming singles, is the first Okonski track to feature another instrumentalist. Cochemea (Daptone Records) turns this trio into a quartet with his tenor sax, artfully weaving lines through and around the group's playing. 'Flying' culminates in an enthralling sax and drum solo, leading the song out. Cochemea's spiritual playing is the perfect complement to the trio's established contemplative and meditative sound.'Easy' Blurb: Written and drilled over countless soundchecks and rehearsals for a myriad of different bands, ""Easy"" initially seemed to exist as a sort of secret instrumental track for a fictitious hip hop album that was never released. It starts lazily, the piano floating around the drums and bass. A big staircase of sound emerges as the piano gradually steps down into an isolated drum beat. The track finishes with an almost hopeful coda, a shout chorus with the single note on the Hammond swelling to the climactic ending. ""This track harkens back to late nights walking around the city without any real place to go,"" Okonski says, ""With no real purpose or destination in mind but ending up right where you were supposed to be.""This liberated Okonski track features Steve Okonski on keys, Aaron Frazer on Drums, and Michael Montgomery on bass.
