Product Description
Seelie Court - the world's premier label for rare and previously unreleased archive recordings of underground folk, rock, proto-metal, and psychedelic music presents Mourning Phase, the first legal issue of this astonishingly original 1971 Progressive Folk Concept LP, long regarded as one of the most intense and poetic private press albums of it's era. Conceived around the cataclysmic end of a tempestuous relationship, the album channels bitterness, rage, and anarchic joy into a sonic outpouring that fuses folk sensibilities with chamber music-like arrangements and fiercely expressive vocals. From the driving, ascending riff of 'Ring Out the Bells', to the visceral power of 'Damn Your Eyes', or the soaring, withering lyricism of 'August Song', the record combines raw emotional intensity with poetic sophistication. Recorded in one take at Eden Studios, the original LP was pressed in extremely limited quantities, with hand-drawn artwork by Mary Redfern, making surviving copies extraordinarily rare. This authorised release features extensive sleeve notes and memories from the surviving members, providing context for the music and restoring it's rightful place in the pantheon of cult progressive folk. Recorded 1971, Eden Studios (Bristol, UK).
