The soundtrack by Yuji Ohno, which decisively established the gloomy and stylistically beautiful worldview of Seishi Yokomizo's original work through it's music. This masterpiece, grounded in jazz and progressive rock, masterfully expresses the madness and melancholy of the story through it's tense harmonies and rhythms. It fulfills the fundamental role of film music stirring the viewer's heart while also standing as an overwhelmingly accomplished album that holds it's own as a musical work, even when separated from the visuals. A landmark work in film music history is finally being re-released on vinyl after 50 years.
