Trevor
Having joined the team in May of 2026, he's jumped headfirst into life at the record store, helping wherever needed while soaking up the constant stream of records, conversations, and discoveries that come through the door every day.
Growing up, music was always around. His household soundtrack was filled with '50s and '60s rock and pop, while his grandmother introduced him to Garth Brooks. Some of his earliest cassette memories included Rage Against the Machine, and Korn, laying the foundation for a taste that would eventually branch out in all directions.
For years Trevor gravitated toward classic rock, grunge, and pop, but once he became serious about collecting records, jazz opened up an entirely new world. Today, he's especially drawn to free jazz and spiritual jazz, genres that continue to inspire much of what he listens to and collects.
His all-time favorites include John Coltrane, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Albert Ayler, and Alice Coltrane. At the same time, he's just as likely to be listening to Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, or Peter Brötzmann. That balance between classic songwriting and boundary-pushing experimentation perfectly captures Trevor's approach to music: if it's compelling, he's interested.
His picks are a reminder that great music doesn't have to fit neatly into one category. One day he's recommending a landmark jazz record, the next he's defending a modern pop album. For Trevor, it's all part of the same conversation.
Favorite record in his collection? Machine Gun by Peter Brötzmann Octet.
Most underrated album? Beatle Country by Charles River Valley Boys.
A record he'll always recommend? Meditation by John Coltrane.
Best score he's ever found in the wild? Haymarket Square by Magic Lantern
Dream record to own? At the moment, something rare by Joe Harriott.
When did he start working here? June 2026.
Favorite thing about working at Sold Out? Seeing what comes through the door every day.
Most controversial music opinion? Pop music is often far more compelling than people give it credit for.
Band or artist he'll defend forever? The Beatles.
Album he secretly loves that people wouldn't expect? The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift.
Go-to music while working? Jazz and whatever new arrivals just came in.
If you're looking for someone who can talk free jazz, classic rock, spiritual jazz, modern pop, or just about anything in between, Trevor is always happy to have the conversation. After all, discovering new music is one of the best parts of working in a record store.
