Reference recordings of the complete piano concertos and piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, performed by one of the greatest Beethoven interpreters of all time. Few pianists have shaped the reception of Beethoven's music at the turn of the 20th to the 21st century as profoundly as the Austrian artist with Moravian roots. Presented on 12 CDs, this set features Brendel's pioneering Philips recordings of all Beethoven piano sonatas from the 1970s, complemented by his acclaimed interpretations of Beethoven's piano concertos with James Levine conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1983. The set also includes the Choral Fantasy, recorded by Brendel in 1977 with Bernard Haitink and the London Symphony Orchestra.
